The girls basketball team opened up the new year with a 64-58 overtime loss to the 7-2 Churchill Bulldogs Jan. 3, making its record 5-4 on the season.
This loss was the Vikes’ second loss to a conference opponent, which could hurt them come playoff time.
Both teams came out ready to face a foe, with the Vikes taking the first quarter, 11-9. At the half, the Vikes were still up two points, 26-24.
A close second half and eventual tie at the final buzzer sent the game into overtime. Led by UNC commit Sarafina Arthur-Williams, who had 19 points in the game, the Bulldogs won in overtime by outscoring the Vikes 13-7.
“It was close throughout the game,” guard Kim Durante said. “But in overtime our offense just couldn’t connect to outscore them.”
Rachel Sisco led the Vikes’ scorers with 15 points, going 5-6 from the field.
The team looks to bounce back when it hosts the 1-8 Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons Jan. 6.

Shame on them for losing to Churchill. I am never going to a girls basketball game now.
