The boys basketball team lost, 67-53, to the 4-1 Paint Branch Panthers Dec. 16, lowering its record to 1-4.
The Vikings warmed up in tuxedo-print t-shirts as a surprise for coach Chris Lun to celebrate his wedding. Center Jemal Cheatham won the tip-off, but the Vikes fumbled their passing and the Panthers won a rebound for the first points. Scoring stalled in the first quarter, with both teams struggling to complete plays. Forward Daniel Lowett was fouled on a lay-up and made a foul shot to shorten the Panthers’ lead to 24-19. The half ended with the Panthers up, 32-24.
Paint Branch increased its lead in the second half. Both teams’ defense was foul- and block-heavy, but the Vikes failed to keep pace with the Panthers’ scoring, eventually losing by 14 points.
Next, the Vikes look for a win in their away game Dec. 21 against rivals the 2-3 Walter Johnson Wildcats.
