The boys basketball team lost, 72-41, against the 3-1 Magruder Colonels Dec. 14, lowering its record to 1-3.
The Colonels, who are ranked sixth in the state by the Washington Post, started the game off with an 11 point run. The Vikes returned with a six-point streak of their own, but remained behind for the rest of the game. The half ended with the Vikings down 33-22.
After lowering their deficit to seven points in the beginning of the third quarter, the Vikes fell behind again after missing baskets and allowing turnovers. Forward Andrew Castegnetti led the Vikings with fourteen points. However, the team was unable to overcome the deficit, and lost 72-41.
Despite the well-fought effort, guard Robby Lund said the Vikes were dominated by the Colonel offense.
“We played really hard but the game got away from us,” Lund said. “The important thing now is to stay poised and focused for our Friday game against Paint Branch.”
Next, the Vikes look to raise their record as they host the 3-1 Paint Branch Panthers Dec. 16.

@Nolan Hanessian: No offence, but I do not believe Whittman is the best school to pin your hopes on for sports. Not to say they are bad, but MCPS has schools that have fantasic sports teams.
