Tensions brewed in the hockey team’s 6-3 victory Dec. 2 over cross-town rivals the BCC Barons as the Vikes raised their record to 2-0.
The Vikes’ offense started off hot, scoring two goals back-to-back. Forward Brian Bayer dished the puck to forward Seth Weintraub, followed by a spectacular wrist shot by forward Lucas Karron to give the Vikes the 2-0 lead.
The Vikes kept their momentum when forward Andy Dexter put in the third goal of the game.
However, the Barons refused to give in without a fight. After scoring two unanswered goals late in the second period, the Barons trailed 3-2.
Early in the third period, forward Karron got the puck past the BCC defenders for a breakaway goal. Forward Jeff Marr scored shortly after, putting the score at 5-3.
Words were exchanged with BCC players near the Vikings net, which stopped the game for a couple of moments.
Marr then put the game away with a late third period goal to give the Vikes the 6-3 victory in the physical match-up.
Karron believes that the team’s energy at the end of the game helped seal the victory.
“We played with a lot of energy in the first [period] then really slumped the last two periods, but we picked it back up and were solid in the offensive zone,” Karron said.
The Vikes travel to face the Sherwood Warriors Dec. 9.
