The hockey team shut out the Walter Johnson Wildcats in its first game of the season, 3-0, Nov. 18, starting its record out at 1-0.
The Vikes dominated the game all three periods, keeping the puck in the Wildcats’ zone for most of the time.
The first goal came with just over minute left in the first period. Forward Lucas Karron dished the puck to linemate Alex Gandolfo, who passed to Andy Dexter, who then buried the puck in the net.
With six minutes left in the second period, the Vikes put in another goal. The goal was called back due to goalie interference, however, and the score remained 1-0.
The call sparked the Vikes’ offense, and Gandolfo added a goal to raise the score to 2-0.
With under a minute left in the game, Seth Butler received a pass in the middle of the ice and quickly scored for the third and final goal of the game.
Goalie Matt Bruns was a brick wall in net with great saves, allowing the Vikes to shut the Wildcats out.
“Our defense did a great job of taking the puck and transitioning quickly, so the offense could get up the ice with speed,” Karron said.
The Vikes play the BCC Barons Dec. 2.
