Spirit week 2011: Blackout and Pep Rally

A sea of black flooded the gym yesterday afternoon as spirited students gathered to watch this year’s Pep Rally, hosted by seniors David Jones and Anousha Jaseb.

The event kicked off with the cheerleaders, who demonstrated their enthusiasm and talent as they lifted their teammates and shouted cheers to get the crowd pumped. Next, the breakdancing club showed off their moves as members flipped through the air, causing the audience to gasp. The poms performed their routine next with strong energy and coordination.

After three years, teacher poms made a comeback and performed with a small but solid group of teachers, including science teacher Jasen Gohn, a crowd favorite.

The entertainment continued as the beloved guy poms crowded the gym floor to perform a comical routine.

Next came the drumline who incorporated new beats and the old favorite “1, 2, 3, 4, Let’s Get Busy!”

Jones and Jaseb announced this year’s homecoming royalty: juniors Mark Hunley and Tyna Smith as homecoming prince and princess and seniors Michael Dunn and Adrienne Remijan as homecoming king and queen.

The rally also featured a video from Whitman Shorts with footage from this fall season’s sports teams and interviews with each team’s captain.

The pep rally ended with an introduction of the seniors on the football team, leaving students pumped and ready for the homecoming game.

The pep rally and battle of the classes were both fun but i think the best part of both were the GUY POMS! they did awesome and they really get the crowd excited! they came into classrooms and sang songs like “My Girl” and “Build Me Up Buttercup” that were absolutely hilarious! i think its safe to say that Whitman loves GUY POMS!!!
