The field hockey team fell to the 8-2 Churchill Bulldogs, 4-2, Oct. 18, dropping its record to 5-6 on the season.
Controversial calls from the referees prevented the team from gaining the momentum it needed to pull out a win.
The Vikes started the game strong, and the score remained tied 0-0 for most of the first half. However, with about five minutes remaining, the Bulldogs scored the first goal of the night and quickly followed up with another for a 2-0 lead.
A potential game-changing goal by midfielder Sammy Tozzi was called back because of a technicality, keeping the Vikes down by two goals.
Churchill scored two goals almost immediately at the start of the second half, one of which came from a shot on an empty Viking goal.
Midfielder Krishna Jaitly and attacker Allie Boyan each contributed one goal in the team’s comeback effort, but it was not enough, with the final score at 4-2.
The team will face the 5-5 Einstein Titans Oct. 20 in its senior night and last regular season game.
