We all know ‘tis the season for giving, and Whitman clubs and students are jumping in to do their share of fund raising and food donation this year.
DECA: Donate cans to the Manna Food Center this winter through Dec. 18. Manna, a program based in Montgomery County, distributes food to around 3,000 county homes each month. The drive is organized by Whitman’s DECA leadership and business club.
Whitman Medical Association: Help contribute to cancer awareness and research with a bite; Saturday, Dec. 19, the newly revived Whitman Medical Association will hold a bake sale to raise funds in support of the American Cancer Society. The sale will be held in front of Barnes & Noble in downtown Bethesda.
A Model of Charity: This club is offering to craft personalized gifts for the holiday for a fee that will benefit associations like the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, Whitman-Walker Clinic and “So Others Might Eat.” Club members will create holiday cards and portraits for $10 and personal calendars for $15.
Whitman Relief Network: Every month, the Whitman Relief Network gets actively involved by packing, organizing and making meals for distribution to the homeless. This holiday season, they hope for greater turnout as they volunteer at Capital Area on Saturday, Dec. 19.
Running Strong for Native American Youth: Running Strong is collecting toys and clothes to send to Native American reservations as Christmas gifts for children. Throughout the year, the club holds fundraisers that benefit Native American communities around the nation.
Las Manos Unidas: Drop off clothes for less fortunate children this winter through Whitman’s Las Manos Unidas chapter. The national, nonprofit organization, whose name means “clasped hands,” donates to charities and performs fundraisers all year.

Students Shelby and Devin Holt: Senior Shelby and sophomore Devon Holt are holding a toy drive for Sinai Hospital in Baltimore as part of Devon’s confirmation project for the Washington Hebrew Congregation. The family has organized toy drives for the hospital in honor of different causes for several years. They accept unwrapped toys like stuffed animals, puzzles, board games and used, but working iPods. You can also donate gift cards, clothing and accessories, including presents appropriate for toddlers. Drop off gifts at 7525 Royal Dominion Drive, Bethesda in time for the Dec. 20 hospital holiday party.
