Track performs well at regional championships

The boys and girls track teams both ran well at session one and two of the regional championships on May 18, qualifying several people for states.

In the girls 4x800m relay, the team of Anna Ryba, Alexandra Phillips, Elizabeth Frank and Tessa Morrison placed fifth with a time of 9:43:92. This was a season best for the team – and the best time for Whitman in this event since 2008 – and it was enough to qualify the squad for states.

In the same event, the team of Nick Adams, Thomas Delacour, Edward Smith and Llewellyn Smith finished eighth with a time of 8:22:88.

In the girls 3200m race, Anna Ryba, Alexandra Phillips and Guiot all qualified for states, taking three out of the top five spots. Adams finished fifth in the boys 3200m race with a time of 9:51:37.

In session three and four of the meet, the Vikes followed up their day one performance with another solid outing.

Ryba took fourth place in the girls 1600m run while Adams took fifth in the boys race, qualifying both of them for states.

In the girls 300m dash, Madeleine Entwistle finished eighth with a time of 49.96 seconds.

The team looks to improve its times when select members travel to the state championships.
