Spring Fair successful despite Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th brought a dark overcast over the Spring Fair May 13, but the ominous date didn’t stop the festivities.

Although a few events, like the dunk tank and ladder wall, were canceled due to the weather, this year’s Spring Fair featured new rides, such as the bull ride.

Another new addition was powderpuff football, brought back from a couple years ago. Right before the fair, junior girls dominated the game, beating out the senior girls.

The fair this year was one of the most successful, incoming SGA president Ari Kapner said.

“We have a lot more sponsors than we did last year,” Kapner said. “The best thing about it that really got people to come out was the powderpuff football game, which we had put off for a few years, but it really turned out well.”

Popular events from past years also returned, like the rock climbing wall, bungee cord jump and jousting. While waiting in line for the rides, fairgoers could enjoy music from Coffeehouse bands and food from Ledo’s pizza, the Burger Joint and Clayboys.

The Spring Fair is the last major SGA event besides Mr. Whitman but is not one of the main fundraisers, Kapner said.

“Spring Fair we really like doing because it’s a community event,” Kapner said. “We want to bring the whole community, not just the high school, but the middle schools, the elementary schools, just the families of everyone. We don’t make that much money on the Spring Fair, but it’s really just an event that we love to put on.”
