With the bleachers filled and the cheerleaders leading cheers, the Vikes started out strong. After letting up only one run in the first inning, the Vikes answered with five runs of their own, led by catcher Mariah McGee.
Pitcher Saycool Joe retired six consecutive outs, and made eight other defensive outs throughout the night.
Two innings later, a Wolverine batter drove in three runs with a base clearing double, giving them the lead 7-6.
Ashraf Ghorbal decided to take matters into his own hands, when he responded with an RBI single, tying the game.
After a four run inning for the Wolves, it all came down to the Vikes. The Vikes mustered up enough strength for an RBI and a solo shot by Saycool, but that was not enough. The Wolves wrapped up the win, with an 11-8 victory.
“We were hitting well,” Saycool said. “[But] we need to work on our hitting.”
The Vikes have two games remaining, with high hopes to end their inaugural season with an even record.
