The Vikes started the game off strong in the first inning with two home-runs by Dan Duffy and Drew Aherne, followed by four more runs, giving them a 6-0 lead. This was backed by Michael Flack’s solid in fielding, along with James Dionne’s excellent out fielding. Gabe Steinberg aided the team as well, pitching exceptionally for all seven innings.
The Vikes started the 3rd inning with another home-run by Duffy, increasing their lead to 7-3. The Vikes continued with their offense, raising the score to 12-9 by the end of the 5th inning. The Hornets attempted a come back, but were unsuccessful. The Vikes were able to maintain their lead for the last two innings, finishing with a 15-9 victory.
Andrew Castagnetti believes that the team’s composure is what helped them seal the win.
“We kept it together, played better,” he said, “and came through in the end.”
The Vikes will go up against the Springbrook Blue Devils on May 7 at home in hopes of furthering their winning record.
