Girls lacrosse goes up 3-2 before lightning delay

The girls lacrosse team went up 3-2 against the Blair Blazers before the game was postponed due to lightning on Mar. 21.

The Lady Vikings struck early in the game when midfielder Claire Block received a pass from behind the net and shot it past the Blazer goalie to take a 1-0 lead less than  a minute into the match.

The girls played hard defense, including a tough save from goalie and co-captain Hannah Nowack.  But, despite the strong defense, a Blazer attacker weaved her way in front of the net and shot across her body, beating Nowack and tying the game at one a piece.

Just over one minute later, midfielder Haley Johnson ripped a shot 10 feet from the net that found its way into the back of the goal to break the tie.  However, a Blazers player cut up through the middle of the field and fired the ball past Nowack to knot the game at two.

Defender and co-captain Catherine Block made a key steal, which she then passed up the field to another Viking that found Johnson. Johnson proceeded to use her speed to break away and score her second goal on the night and give the Lady Vikes a 3-2 lead.

Less than a minute later, the referees spotted lightning, which forced a mandatory 30 minute delay.  The lightning persisted and the game had to be postponed until Mar. 22 at 7:15.
