Lieutenant governor Anthony Brown will be the class of 2011 graduation speaker for the ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall June 14.
Brown, who went to Harvard University, has served as lieutenant governor since 2007. In 2004, he was deployed to Iraq for ten months where, in 2007, he was promoted to a colonel ranking. Before becoming lieutenant governor, Brown served two terms in the state House of Delegates.
The administration and the senior class asked parents to reach out to their contacts in order to find a prominent graduation speaker.
“A parent helped us out and had a connection with the lieutenant governor,” principal Alan Goodwin said. “It’s the first time the lieutenant governor’s given a speech at a high school. We’re really lucky.”
Goodwin said he’ll forward Brown some information about Whitman and the class of 2011 and looks forward to a motivational speech.
“I met him briefly the other day at another meeting and only got to speak with him for a couple minutes,” Goodwin said. “He’s very excited.”
