Whitman Shorts aired in second period classes today, after administrators canceled the original Oct. 28 broadcast because someone had stolen the laptop and back-up hard drive where the episode was saved. Whitman Shorts’ staff reassembled the raw video that they had on school computers to compile the new Halloween episode.
Shorts’ staff originally asked the administration to re-air the episode the Friday before Halloween.
“I sent an email to the resource teachers asking for their thoughts on that, because Dr. Goodwin and I had concerns over shortening periods on a day when a lot of people were giving tests,” assistant Principal Jennifer Webster said. “We decided that Tuesday would be a compromise because it was close to Halloween, but not at the end of the quarter.”
School security is still investigating the theft, but no one has come forward with any information about who stole the equipment.
“This is a bigger issue because we have a lot of students who bring their cell phones in their backpacks, sitting where anyone could go through them, and they do, and their valuables are taken,” Webster said. “When these things happen the school doesn’t take liability for that. When you bring that kind of stuff in here it’s at your own risk.”
Webster said that the student whose laptop was stolen hadn’t locked down the computer onto the Whitman Shorts table, as he usually does, on the day the laptop was stolen.

This was stolen from a student? I thought that computer belonged to the school/Whitman Shorts staff
