Sophomore Emma Keteltas won Whitman Idol 2011 after singing ‘Far Away’ by Ingrid Michaelson. Freshman Andrea Dai, who sang ‘Bleeding Love’ by Leona Lewis, was the runner up, beating ten other contestants.
The competitors were judged by three staff members, science teacher Jason Gohn, English teacher Corie Stewart and counselor William Kapner, who gave their comments throughout the competition.
“The underclassmen tonight really gave the upperclassmen a run for their money,” Stewart said. “They were amazing and have so much talent.”
Audience members voted for their favorite contestant after hearing all 12 performances.
“It was a really hard choice because so many of them were on the front line,” junior Emilia McNally said. “Whenever you thought one was really good, another contestant came who was just as good.”
All proceeds from the event go towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
