For the ever over-achieving Whitman student, exam week is always a time of stress and the nightmare of being unprepared can haunt many students’ dreams. Some students are consoled by the fact that most county exams are straightforward and easy, but find themselves nervously questioning whether their class has a county final exam or a teacher-made one.
Below, you will find a guide to which exam is associated with each academic course.
Math
Most math classes offer the county exam. If county exams aren’t currently offered for a class, teachers reformat and modernize county exams that were offered for the class in the past.

English
All but 12th grade English classes have a county exam. However, next year, even 12th graders will have county exams because it will be the first year that curriculum changes must be adopted by all schools. English classes are also required to give a graded county formative assessment halfway through the semester.

Social Studies
The only Social Studies classes that have a county exam are the classes that students need to graduate. Every other course has a teacher-made exam. Teachers collaborate together to produce this identical exam that is given to all classes in the course. Teachers aren’t allowed to give different exams within one course.

Language
The more elementary language classes offer the county exam, while the more advanced classes are teacher-made. If a single word of a county exam is changed or a teacher gives any help, they’ll be harshly reprimanded by the county. Teachers who teach the same language collaborate together to make the exam, but many teachers who teach less common languages are forced to make the exams by themselves because they are the only teacher at Whitman who teaches it.
