Talent Show 2011 ventures successfully into space

Rocketing towards three hours of blaring music, bright lights and interactive skits, this year’s Talent Show took off without a hitch.
The show opened with the 11-person band “It’s Dark, Obi Juan,” led by vocalist senior John An; the upbeat music and dancing set the tone for the rest of the space-themed show.

The student committee did an amazing job picking the acts that went into the show, as there was a vast range of music. From senior Emily Park’s “Good Vibes” to seniors Ben Golan and Jonathan Harwood’s self-written raps, Talent Show had it all.

No strangers to the talent show were the Poms (SMOP) and Drumline, two crowd favorites who again wowed the audience with their choreographed performances.

The show featured numerous hilarious skits making fun of various aspects of Whitman, leaving the audience in laughs throughout the show. One crowd favorite seemed to be the “Predators Anonymous misconception” poking fun at science teacher Jasen Gohn.

Although it was funny at first, the “alien invaders” acts started to get repetitive by the end of the show; however, all the acting was still superb. Junior Solomon Parker’s impeccable “Black Swan” performance was a genius addition to the show as well as his infamous Tyra Banks impression. Impersonations seemed to be the highlight of Talent Show, with Steffie Sansbury’s impression of English teacher Eric Ertman leaving the audience laughing.

But of course, Talent Show wouldn’t be what it is without a teacher video. This year’s teacher video had chemistry teacher Sean Reid ranting about how he felt earth “wasn’t for him.”

With the lights, music, acting and directing, Talent Show truly outdid itself this year. Director Sahil Ansari’s countless hours of work made for one unforgettable show that left students with nothing but limitless laughs.
