The girls’ basketball team (5–0) destroyed the Quince Orchard Cougars (1–3) 66–53 on Friday night.
The Vikes started dominating immediately when they outscored Quince Orchard by 17 in the first quarter. Stellar defense was able to silence the Cougars, and a hot Viking offense scored 25 points.
For the final three quarters, Whitman did not cruise nearly as much. The Cougars only got outscored by two points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and even shortened the deficit in the final quarter. However, it was too little too late, and Whitman easily secured the win.
Despite the resounding win, the Vikes were not very efficient from the field. The team as a whole only shot 5/21 from the three-point line and 7/11 from the free-throw line. However, Whitman had its success with rebounds, with senior Kaylah Tchoufa leading the team with 14. Tchoufa also led the team with 26 points, continuing an amazing scoring season. Sophomore Rocky Cruz also excelled, scoring 15 points as well as six rebounds and two assists.
The Vikes look to extend their win streak to six games when they play Walter Johnson away on Monday, January 12, at 7:15 p.m.
