Two students fight before school, faculty members injured

Two male students were involved in a physical fight in the gym hallway as school began Nov. 9, involving two other students, as well as security guards and teachers who broke up the fight.

The argument began between two friends when one criticized the other’s clothing and escalated into a fight, principal Alan Goodwin said.

“When students are in a fight with each other, they don’t know what’s happening around them and don’t pay attention to who gets in the way,” assistant principal Brandi Heckert said.

One security guard had a scratched eye, another security guard suffered a bump on the forehead and a teacher was hit in the eye, Goodwin said.

“Unfortunately, injury is a risk you take when you try to break up a fight,” Heckert said.

Administrators are unsure of what the final punishment will be, but fights constitute suspendable offenses, Heckert said.
