This past weekend, nine Whitman crew team members traveled to Boston with their club team, Thompson’s Boat Center, to race in the world’s biggest two-day rowing event, the Head of the Charles.
The Head of Charles typically attracts over 300,000 spectators. Teams from all over the world attend this 3.2 mile race that takes place on the Charles River in Boston.
Hannah Platt and Christina Schlobohm were the only girls selected from Whitman and helped the girl’s boat do better than they ever have before.
“This was a huge accomplishment for TBC, the best TBC has done for women has been 8th place. So we broke the boathouse’s previous record by getting 7th place,” said Schlobohm.
The boy’s boat wasn’t so lucky. They narrowly missed two collisions with other boats, which cost them valuable time. These setbacks caused them to place 36th overall.
“It was very disappointing, we could have done a lot better,” said coxswain Andrew Triay.
