The field hockey team (8–1) strolled past the Richard Mongomery Rockets (3–5) 5–0 on Tuesday night.
In the first quarter, the Vikes started a bit sloppy, still maintaining possession over the Rockets but unable to find the back of the net. Junior Sadie Bastianlei got Whitman going when she sent one past the RM goalie in the second quarter to put the Vikes up 1–0. There were no other goals in the first half, but the Vikes played tremendous defense to keep the lead going into the second half.
In the second half, the Vikes continued to pressure the overwhelmed Rockets and turned the force into goals on the offensive side of the ball. Seniors Birgit Luteija and Helen Kelly both netted one to put the Vikes up three midway through the second half. Senior Cata Sposato led the way from there, scoring two more goals, including one that bounced off her face into the net during a corner. Whitman ended the game sweeping RM 5–0.
The team next plays the Northwest Jaguars (1–6) at Jerome on Thursday for senior night.
