Girls soccer gets back on track

**By Lee Cary**

Varisty girls soccer defeated the Poolesville Falcons 3-0 on Oct 11, improving to 7-2 and snapping its two game losing streak.

The Lady Vikes had two close shots in the first 15 minutes of the game, but were unable to convert.  Poolesville then countered with some close opportunities of their own. However, the teams entered halftime scoreless.

Poolesville opened the second half with a shot that barely went over the goal.  The teams remained scoreless until the 60th minute, when forward Alex Mason drilled a free kick from outside the box into the back of the net.

Just eight minutes later, forward Andrea McDonald scored when she kicked a line drive shot that found its way past the goalie.  Less than 10 minutes later, Mason kicked a leading pass to forward Kim Anderson, who then lofted a shot over the head of the goalie for the third goal.

Goalkeeper Hannah Sasscer recorded her seventh shutout of the season, which sets a team record that she previously shared with Alex Bragale (08’).

The Lady Vikes take on the Thomas Johnson Patriots next on October 16.
