Girls soccer loses controversial game, drops to 6-2

**By Lee Cary**

Varsity girls soccer lost 1-0 to the Richard Montgomery Rockets on Oct 5, dropping its record to 6-2.

The Lady Vikes came out firing and had a number of early opportunities, but failed to translate one into a goal.

            The teams entered halftime scoreless.

Halfway through the second half, a Rocket forward lofted a shot over the head of goalkeeper Hannah Sasscer, which ended up being the only goal of the night.

Later in the half, forward Alex Mason shot a free kick into the upper portion of the goal.  The ball came back down behind the goal line for what should have been the tying goal.  However, the referee was not in position to call the goal and waved it off.

The offense struggled to find the back of the net with the absence of forward Lucy Arledge, who broke her collar bone last week, and midfielder Aliza Wolfe, who is also out due to injury.

The Lady Vikes look to snap their two-game losing streak against Poolesville at home on Oct 11.
