Every week, the community-run Montgomery County football site names a player, a team and a coach most valuable based on their performance that week.
This week, varsity football’s Jeff Gruen earned defensive lineman of the week after the team’s 44-7 victory over BCC last week.
“One of the only reasons we beat BCC was because our entire defense played well,” Gruen said. “They used me as sort of a representative of the whole defense, since I got a hit on the quarterback that game”.
Gruen’s sack was just a part of the dominant Viking defense that allowed only 10 offensive yards in the first half.
Coach Jim Kuhn agreed, saying that Gruen has come a long way.
“Jeff has been a consistent player over the years, and he hasn’t been flashy about it,” he added. “I’m happy he got the recognition.”
In addition to Gruen’s award, the team’s game against Quince Orchard the week of Sept 16 was nominated for the Game of the Year.
