The National Forensics League selected speech and debate team president Jane Kessner as one of six finalists for this year’s Student of the Year. A panel of coaches at the NFL national tournament interviewed Kessner June 13, and will announce the winner June 18.
Kessner was automatically entered in the contest when she won the Student of the Year award for the local Chesapeake District this past April. She was chosen based on her success and leadership in debate, as well as her character and community service.
“We all know how special Jane is, not only with her ability to excel in so many speech and debate events or her passionate dedication to the team, but in her conviction that the voice of students in this activity matters,” coach Anjan Choudhury said in an e-mail to the speech and debate team.
