The Washington Capitals have started off their season with wins over the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The two game winning streak has landed them at the top of the southeast division, the same spot they finished the season last year.
The Caps beat the Bruins 4-1 in their first game on Oct. 10, thanks to excellent defense in the later stages of the game. The Capitals allowed 10 shots on goal in the first 13 minutes, and only 10 more for the remainder of the game.
On Oct. 3 the Caps defeated the Maple Leafs in Washington 6-4, to extend their home opener winning streak to nine games, as they have not lost one since moving to the Verizon Center. Last season the Capitals started off their season winning 18 of their first 20 home games and displayed similar strength in their home opener this season. The Caps were up 6-1 going into the last period but gave up three goals in the final minutes of the game, when most of the starters were relaxing on the bench.
The Capitals next game is Tuesday, Oct. 6 against the Flyers in Philadelphia.
