The baseball team (14–4) started the playoffs off by beating the Northwood Gladiators 12–2 by mercy rule after five innings on Saturday.
The Vikes had control of the game from the beginning, as they lead 8–1 by the 2nd inning.
“We had aggressive at bats attacking the first good pitch we liked and we were able to execute with runners in scoring position to get out to an early lead,” outfielder Louis Hoang-Simon said. “It forced Northwood to play from behind the entire game.”
The Vikes had similar success on defense, as they they were able to limit the Gladiators to two runs the entire game.
“Our pitchers were throwing strikes and forcing them to put the ball in play, and our defense did a good job making of making the plays,” Hoang-Simon said.
The Vikings’ dominant defensive performance prevented the Gladiators from staging a comeback as the team mercied Northwood after five innings.
On offense, the squad was led by Ben Rosenblatt and Danny Mills who each had multiple RBI’s.
The team’s next game is home against the Blair Blazers on Monday at 7.
