The girls softball team (4–12) was eliminated from the playoffs Thursday, falling to the Northwood Gladiators 3–2.
In the team’s first matchup, the Vikes dominated both offensively and defensively, scoring 11 runs and holding the Gladiators to only two. However, their offense stalled in the rematch.
“We struggled offensively and stranded a lot of runners,” outfielder Leah Gordon said. “We had trouble making contact with the ball and had many strikeouts.”
Albeit their offensive struggles, the Vikes were always in the game, never trailing by more than two runs. A late inning surge fell just short though, ending the Vikes’ season.
The playoffs run ended early for the squad, but Gordon, playing in her final game, still applauded the team’s efforts and camaraderie throughout the season.
“The games didn’t always go our way, but it was good to know that we all stood together,” Gordon said.
