The baseball team (10–2) shut out the Blair Blazers 1–0 Monday, relying on their defense to overcome a weak offensive showing and carry them past the Blazers.
The Vikes’ stellar defense was lead by pitcher Max Palermo, who only allowed four hits while tallying four strikeouts.
“Max did a great job throwing strikes and keeping them off the bases,” outfielder Eric Wayman said. “And when they did reach base, the defense was able to pick him up and make the routine plays to get out of jams.”
While the Vikes’ defense was near perfect, their offense was stagnant. Outside of the team’s lone second inning run off of a Blazer error, the Vikings were never able to build up any momentum on offense.
“We were having good at bats and getting a good number of runners on base, but we just couldn’t quite get them in,” Wayman said.
The squad’s next next game is away against the Quince Orchard Cougars Wednesday at 3:45.
