The baseball team (5–1) rebounded after a loss against Walter Johnson and trumped the B-CC Barons (1–6) by a score of 7–5 Wednesday.
The Vikes’ offensive exploited the Barons’ mistakes, and a stellar defensive performance held the Barons in check until the final inning, at which point the Vikings had put game out of reach.
“We took advantage of their mistakes and we were up 4–1 going into the top of the seventh. Sean Hannegan had a big bases clearing double to put us up 7–1,” Manager Joe Cassidy said.
In addition to Hannegan, the squad’s offense was lead by third baseman Tyler DeMartino, who hit his first home run of the year, and outfielder Eric Wayman who had multiple hits.
The defensive performance was spearheaded by pitcher Sean Cook, who pitched the enitre game.
“Sean Cook was pitching, and throwing a lot of pitches,” Cassidy said. “Playing here, I probably would have made a change, but I had more confidence in Sean because B-CC is a much smaller field that he would be able to get out of it.”
Cook limited the Barons to one run through the first six innings, and finished out the game for the Vikes despite throwing over 100 pitches.
The team’s next game is against Paint Branch at home Thursday at 7:00.
