The girls softball team (2–2) demolished the Walter Johnson Wildcats Monday 16–2 .
After a previous defeat to the B-CC Barons, the Vikes changed their approach at practice to focus on the fundamentals.
“After the last game, we realized as a team our energy was off,” infielder Jenna York said. “We spent a lot of time at practice working on basic drills.”
From the start of the game, this focus on the basics helped the Vikes jump out to an early lead. Multiple players were able to get extra base hits early on, including York, who drove in a runner with a double in the first inning.
The Vikings were also able to shut down the Wildcats behind the pitching of Riley Kuehn. Kuehn was able execute her pitches effectively throughout the game, York said.
Due to the Vikes’ 14 run lead, the game ended after just four innings.
The team’s next game is Thursday against Paint Branch at 3:45.
