The coed volleyball team (2–0) trounced the Springbrook Blue Devils (0–2) Tuesday, claiming their second victory of the season in straight sets.
The Vikings won the first set 25–14 and didn’t look back, holding the Blue Devils to fewer than ten points in both the second and third sets. Libero Andrew Constable noted the tenacious play from fill-in setter Gabi Chatwin.
“Our setter was out sick, but Gabi Chatwin filled in last minute and did an outstanding job,” Constable said.
Additionally, the team’s chemistry and coordination gave the Vikings a considerable edge over the Blue Devils.
“The other team did not communicate well and had trouble returning the ball,” hitter Gideon Crawford said. “As a team, we played well together.”
The expectation is that the already strong play will continue to improve as the season progresses and new players gain experience.
“A few of us are new to coed,” Constable said. “We were tentative at the first game, but coming into tonight, you could hear the enthusiasm and bonding. It’s really starting to feel like a team.”
The Vikings return home to face the Wootton Patriots April 7 at 5:30.
