The football team triumphed in their season finale Friday night, prevailing 26–20 over rival B–CC Barons.
The Vikings dominated early, jumping out to a 14–3 lead in the second quarter. Quarterback Matt Clayton made key contributions to the team’s success, rushing for one touchdown and catching another.
However, a controversial fair-catch call shifted the game’s momentum towards the Barons, who scored two unanswered touchdowns to end the first half.
After a back-and-forth second half, the game was tied 20–20 with just minutes remaining. The Vikings mounted a rapid game-winning drive which culminated in a two-yard rushing touchdown from running back Gunnar Morton.
Perhaps as pertinent to the rivalry as the final score is the competitiveness among the Viking and Baron players and the fans. To prevent scuffles on the field and to promote sportsmanship, the teams held a joint dinner Tuesday.
The Vikings finished the season with a 4–6 record for the second straight year.
