The girls volleyball team defeated the Watkins Mill Wolverines Tuesday night, securing a 3–2 victory in the season opener.
The Vikings’ defense held the Wolverines to only two sets with strong performances by middle blockers Cami Rogers and Katrina Philbin.
“Our blocking was a huge asset to our defense,” said outside hitter Claire Nagelhout. “Watkins Mill had a really good middle hitter, but our blockers made it difficult for her to get the ball across the net.”
The Vikings’ defense started the season strong, generating offensive opportunities for the hitters.
“We had great passing throughout the whole game, which really gave all our hitters an opportunity to score,” Nagelhout said.
The team’s chemistry and coordination is already well developed, explained defensive specialist Anya Fritsch.
“We really all worked together, and the girls were screaming with enthusiasm every time we scored a point,” said Fritsch.
The girls hope to continue their success Thursday evening against Einstein at home.
