Track and field ended its season last Saturday, after winning multiple events in the Maryland 4A State Championship at Morgan State University. Seniors Evan Woods and Clare Severe both took home state titles.
The boys tied for 6th overall and were led by Woods, who won both the 1600m and 3200m.
Additionally, Woods placed third in the 800 meter run, and was less than three seconds out of first place.
The girls team also delivered a strong performance at the meet, placing 13th overall.
Senior Clare Severe posted the fastest time in the 1600m and placed second in 800m.
Both the boys and girls placed 14th in the 400 meter, run by sophomore Dylan Madden and senior Reyna Wright, respectively.
This year’s performance marked an improvement for the team: the boys were able to jump 12 positions after placing 18th last year, and the girls moved up from 14th to 13th place.
With both Woods and Severe graduating, the team hopes for new talent to continue their successes next year.
Madden says he’s uncertain about the team’s future, but knows that through teamwork, next year’s team can place even higher.
“The track team is like one big family.” Madden said, “We begin hardly knowing anybody, and we end with new friends.”
