The event was organized by 1965 graduates Mary Slaby, Barbara Steele and Jane Pechman Stern. The two classes also donated two benches to the school located in front of the main office.

Many of the attendees expressed their gratitude for Steele and Stern’s efforts.

“It has been a very enlightening and rewarding experience being able to spend the weekend with old classmates,” Dorothy Rayburn (’64) said. “I haven’t really stayed in touch with classmates over the years, but it has been great having the opportunity to just relax and reflect on the history that has transpired the last 50 years.”

During those years Whitman has evolved into the school it is today, and the alumni noted these changes during their stay.

“I am so blown away impressed by what Walt Whitman is all about: the spirit, the activism, the multi-faceted aspects of life here, the technology, all of what Whitman has become,” Martha Stark (’65) said. “It is just pretty awesome. I am a little bit overwhelmed and very proud to have been from here.”

As a whole, everyone seems to think the reunion turned out well.

“I think that the reunion was a huge success, with enough different activities for everyone,” Steele said. “The class of ’66 is already calling Mary [Slaby] for advice.”
