The now 5–4 baseball team trounced the Walter Johnson Wildcats 8–1 Friday, attaining a winning record for the first time since their opening game.
The Vikings were dominant from the first pitch, scoring in every inning they batted in but the sixth, including a three-run fifth inning.
Outfielder Eric Wayman cited the team’s confidence at the plate as the reason for their batting success.
“We were able to have good at-bats because we were patient and we didn’t swing at many pitches out of the strike zone,” he said.
Third baseman Alex Clark put the Vikes on the scoreboard in the first inning, smacking a double that hit the outfield wall, driving in a run.
Outfielder Andrew Cashmere hit a two-run single in the fourth inning, and Wayman drove in runs in the second and fifth innings.
Sam Berson had an impressive outing on the mound, allowing just one earned run in six innings. Tyler Hwang pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
The Vikings look to win their third straight game when they face rival B-CC Barons Saturday.
