[score id=”43265″ align=”right”]Boys volleyball had their season debut as the rebuilt squad looks to get back on their feet. The team fell to the Poolesville Falcons 3-0 in their opener, scoring fewer than 20 combined points in their first two sets.
The opening of the game demonstrated some of the team’s inexperience, with the team posting seven and eight points the first two sets.
However, a midgame pep-talk and the arrival of setter Stefan Greenberg, who had to miss most of the game to do commitments in the talent show, sparked the Vikes, allowing them to start playing together as they fell in a close 20-25 final set.
“It wasn’t what we wanted, but at the end we really played together and made some big strides,” Greenberg said. “If we can play like that consistently by the end of the year we may actually get some wins this season.
Despite the loss, some of the new players look promising, especially front-liner Stepan Casey who had several key points off of blocks. His tall 6’ 5” frame is sure to be an asset for the squad all year.
The team returns to action Wednesday at home against Blair.
