The boys basketball team dropped to 1-2 on the season after losing to Landon (1-3) 61-43. This marks their second loss to a private school team this season.
After falling behind early in the first quarter, the Vikings used crisp interior passing to tie the game at 22 heading into halftime. In the second half, quick shots and turnovers from the Vikes led to easy opportunities for the Bears in transition. The Vikes were outscored 23-7 in the third quarter.
The Vikings had trouble covering Bears guard Aaron Byrd, who scored 35 points, seventeen of which came from the free throw line.
“Our attitude and effort wasn’t there,” point guard Justin Kay said. “Going forward we need to buy in to our defense and not worry about individual statistics.”
Forward Riley Shaver led the Vikes with a season-high 18 points, hitting three shots from beyond-the-arc. Center Anton Casey matched his season-high with 10 points, including six free throws.
The Vikes won’t have a lot of time to recover, as they play the 2-0 Wootton Patriots this Monday.
“This loss was an eye opener and reality check for us,” Kay said.
