Bdubbs Bakes: Buttermilk brownies

With Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season right around the corner, here’s an easy twist on traditional brownies. Top them with festive sprinkles or crushed candy cane and give them as gifts—they’re the perfect way to sweeten someone’s day.

Ingredients for brownies:

1 stick butter
1 cup water
½ cup canola oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 eggs
½ cup cocoa
½ cup buttermilk
1 ½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

Ingredients for frosting:
1 stick butter
1/3 cup cocoa
4 cups powered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup buttermilk

Procedure for brownies:
1) In saucepan, bring to boil 1 stick butter, 1 cup water, and ½ cup canola oil. Then turn it off.
2) In a large mixing bowl, add the sugar, flour, eggs, cocoa, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla. Beat with whisk until combined.
3) Add liquid from saucepan and blend mixture again.
4) Pour batter into a low-flat pan butter pan. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.

Procedure for frosting:
1) Just before baking ends, melt 1 stick of butter and 1/3 cup cocoa over low heat.
2) Turn off the saucepan. Gradually add and stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla and buttermilk.
3) Whisk well and pour on cake after it has cooled for 10 minutes.
