The 2-4 co-ed allied handball team ended their season on a high note, defeating the Northwood Gladiators 18-14 Wednesday.
“I think it was a collaborative team effort yesterday,” goalie Will Fried said. “I knew that every time I made a save, I could throw a long pass [to a forward down the court], so we could score quickly and tire out Northwood because they didn’t have any substitutes.”
Senior captain Dylan Ritzer led the Vikings with 10 goals, followed by hat-tricks from forwards Lily Jones and Brian Fisher, and one goal from forwards Grace Goldman and Hannah Hughes.
“The team gelled out there this season,” coach Amy Parrish said. “We had many first time players who really enjoyed themselves. Everyone played in every game and our team showed good sportsmanship.”
She said the emphasis throughout the season was always on playing as a unit, working hard, persevering, and having fun.
“We appreciate the fans who came out and cheered us on throughout the season,” Parrish said. “We are looking forward to [the next co-ed allied sport,] corollary bocce [in the winter.]”
