The football team lost 28-6 to Damascus on homecoming night, dropping their record to 2-4.
The Vikings kept the game close, only trailing 14-6 at halftime. However, in the second half, the Hornets were able to wear down the Viking defense with their potent rushing attack.
The Vikings matched the Hornets effort, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their depth and talent, linebacker Mitch Fenton said.
“We were right with them going into the third quarter, but they’re a solid team all around,” Fenton said.
Running back Jacob Pitsenberger had another big day, carrying the ball 17 times for 122 yards, including the lone Viking touchdown.
The Hornet defense was willing to concede short passes, but they were stingy in the back-end of their secondary, as quarterback Evan Smith was 14 for 21 with 95 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.
The Vikings will take on the 1-6 Springbrook Blue Devils next Friday at home looking to improve their record to 3-4 on the season.
