The boys soccer team trumped Northwest on Wednesday with a solid 3-1 victory. Through strong defense and a productive offensive output the Vikes were able to control the game for its duration.
The first half ended with a 1-1 tie with the Vikes goal coming from right back Andreas Djurhuus. Despite a close score, Whitman controlled the pace of the game with the offense maintaining a majority of possession and the only Northwest goal coming off of a free kick.
Shortly into the second half, midfielder George Xourioas scored to give the Vikings the lead. The offense continued to dominate possession, allowing forward Aaron Tannenbaum to score in the final minutes of the game.
Midfielder Jonny Schneider attributed the win to the team dynamic.
“Everyone contributed and we are starting to come together as a team. We got the result we needed to start off the season well,” he said.
