The crew team took their final strokes of the season with a strong performance at the Scholastic Rowing Association National Championship last weekend.
Of the five Viking boats that qualified to compete, two made the finals, with times among the six fastest crews nationwide. The Men’s Junior Varsity 8+ and the Women’s Second Varsity boats both finished sixth in the country.
“We are very happy about what we did this past weekend,” junior Kate Conlan said. “We made it out of the heat and out of the semifinals, which isn’t something we necessarily saw ourselves doing earlier this year. This was a great way to end the season, and a race to remember for the seniors in our boat.”
Sophomore Noah Gunther said he believes the team needs to consistently race with the same determination in official competition as they do in practice in order to stay competitive next year.
“We are going to lose a lot of good rowers,” he said. “But I feel that the upcoming sophomores, if they can come together with the same energy as they have shown all season, can hopefully help us win Maryland States next year.”
