The boys basketball team improved their record to 10-3 after a 21 point victory over the Paint Branch Panthers, 59-38, Jan. 17.
The team was once again led by strong defensive play that only allowed four Panthers to score.
In the opening minutes of the first quarter the game was was back and fourth until the Vikes were able to hit three straight three-pointers to grab an early lead and set the tone for the rest of the game.
The Vikings started building up a solid lead during the second quarter, outscoring Paint Branch 15-5 and ending the half with an 18-point lead.
Just like they’ve done throughout most of the season, the boys were able to cruise through the last 16 minutes of the game to an easy double-digit win, beating the panthers by 21.
Point guard Kyle Depollar lead all Viking scorers with 15 points and center Josh Fried added another 14 points to the balanced offensive attack that had nine different players score.
Almost all of the Vikes points were scored on the field with the team only have a total of seven free throws all game.
The win was big for the Vikings, who suffered a tough divisional loss last week to the Blair Blazers.
“It was a really solid team win,” guard Justin Kay. “It was nice to shoot the ball the way we did and get back to our Whitman defense that wins us games.”
The Vikings now travel to Quince Orchard Tues. Jan. 21.
