It was utter and complete domination by the ice hockey team Friday night in a 10-1 win over Richard Montgomery.
The Vikings’ record improved to 5-3-0 and the Rockets’ dropped to 1-8-0.
The Vikes’ control over the game was evident in the shot totals for each team. The Vikings scored their 10 goals on 52 shots, demonstrating their strong offensive play. On the other end, the Rockets only managed two shots on goalie Zach Butler.
Arguably, it wasn’t a fair game from the start as there is a huge discrepancy in the programs because Richard Montgomery only suited up eight skaters while Whitman fielded 17.
Nevertheless, the Vikings’ goals came early and often. Forward Ethan Weintraub started the scoring, three and a half minutes into the first period, beating the R.M. goalie for one of five times in the period.
The Vikes added three more in the second and two more in the third, giving them an even ten.
The Rockets scored their only goal in the third after the game was long over.
At the end of the game, only three Vikings didn’t have a goal or assist and one of them was the goalie.
Forward Jeff Marr led the team with four points on one goal and three assists while forwards Julian Robinson and Kourosh Ashtary-Yazdi led the team in goals with two each.
The Vikings face a much tougher opponent in their next game when they take on Churchill, Monday at the Laurel Ice Gardens. In their previous matchup, the Vikes lost a close game 5-3 and are looking for redemption.
“Ever since the beginning of the week we’ve been getting ready for Churchill,” Forward Andy Dexter said. “Even though we don’t like them and they don’t like us they’re always the most exciting games of the year.”
