After a slow start, the Viking ice hockey team beat Walter Johnson, 4-1.
The win improved the Vikes’ record to 4-3, keeping them in third place in the division. Walter Johnson’s record dropped to 1-5-1.
At the end of the first period, the Vikings found themselves down 1-0 but would respond after the intermission. Forwards Douglass Bruchalski and Andy Dexter scored a pair of goals, putting the Vikes ahead going into the third period.
Defensemen Matthew Lebeau extended the lead with a power play goal just over a minute into the period. Five minutes later, forward Kourosh Ashtary-Yazdi put the game out of reach with a goal of his own.
Dexter had a very strong game, dominating on offense. He added two assists to his one goal, earning him a team-leading 11 points on the season.
“We showed that we had a ton of fire power with a little less than 50 shots on goal,” Ashtary-Yazdi said. “It was a solid and a good way to comeback from our loss against Wootton.”
The Vikes take on the D.C. Stars in their next game, Monday at Ft. Dupont.
