The boys basketball team routed the Northwest Jaguars, 63-33, for its third straight double-digit win, improving its record to 3-2, Dec. 18.
The team started out slow in the first half, only taking a 24-18 lead into the half but then exploding in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 26-8 and finishing the game with a 30 point victory.
The Vikes played their usual style of basketball, scoring easy points off steals and turnovers and playing tight defense to force tough shots. In their past three games against Landon, Wootton and Northwest, the Vikings have won by a margin of 26.7 points.
“We decided as a team to buy into really working hard on defense and not let up,” guard Riley Shaver said. “We also have kept our intensity up from start to finish throughout each game.”
Shaver has been a big part of the wins, leading the team with 18 points against the Jaguars and averaging 15.7 points the past three games.
The team now has three big upcoming rivalry games. The boys first take on the Churchill Bulldogs on the road, Fri. Dec. 20. Then when returning from break the team takes on Walter Johnson at home Fri. Jan 3, before traveling to B-CC Mon. Dec. 6 for the first meeting of the season against the Barons.
