After a couple of weeks hiatus, the ice hockey team got back into the swing of things with a 4-2 win over rivals B-CC.
The team’s record improved to 3-2-0 (Wins-losses-overtime losses) while B-CC’s record fell to 1-2-1.
The Vikes’ win moved them up into third place in the division behind Churchill and Wootton.
As soon as the puck dropped, the Vikings started to dominate play. Forward Jeff Marr started off the scoring with a goal just 31 seconds into the game.
The Vikes kept the momentum going throughout the first period with a goal from forward Samuel Dexter and a power play goal from defensemen Stephen Nowack.
Forward Andy Dexter added a power-play goal in the third period to put the game away.
It took a very strong game by the B-CC goalie to prevent the game from getting out of hand. The Vikings’ offense dominated play, putting up 40 shots on the B-CC net.
“The goalie for the other team was quite good,” forward Ethan Weintraub said. “We had some quality chances that he stopped.”
All in all, the Vikes were happy with the win but felt that there were areas to improve.
“I think we all feel we could have played better Friday,” Weintraub said. “We got tired in the third period and stopped skating.”
The Vikings hit the ice again next Friday, when they take on the undefeated and division-leading Wootton Patriots at Rockville Ice Arena.
